Timmins police seek help identifying suspect in Riverside Bridge hydro line damage
Timmins police are investigating damage to a hydro line beneath the Riverside Bridge near the Mattagami boat launch, believed to have occurred about 1 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2026. Police are trying to identify the person they believe damaged the line.
The Timmins Police Service says the damaged line is a 4,000-amp hydro line that provides electrical service to the city’s west end. Police say the line was cut using tools.
Investigators reported finding several items at the scene, including tree branches, a hat and tools that showed signs of burning and charring. A bag containing additional personal articles was also recovered from the water beneath the bridge.
The Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit searched surrounding waterways, according to Timmins police.
Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity near the Riverside Bridge around 1 a.m. Aug. 18, or who can identify the suspect, to come forward.
Police say tampering with high-voltage infrastructure is dangerous and can put both individuals and the community at risk.
