Timmins-Porcupine Station Project Reaches Milestone with Second Public Information Centre
The Timmins-Porcupine Station project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of its second Public Information Centre (PIC #2) on June 19, 2024. This event is part of the ongoing environmental assessment process for the proposed station. The first Public Information Centre was held in March 2024.
During these events, stakeholders, residents, and Indigenous communities reviewed the concept site layout, environmental conditions, technical studies, and potential impacts of the station. These sessions are part of efforts to reinstate the Northlander passenger rail service.
The Environmental Assessment process follows the Transit and Rail Project Assessment Process, which includes various engineering and scientific studies. This process involves identifying and evaluating potential impacts, assessing mitigation strategies, and establishing long-term monitoring and documentation protocols. Completion of these studies allows Ontario Northland to move to the next phase, incorporating feedback into an environmental project report.
Ontario Northland has committed to keeping the public informed throughout the next phase of work on the Northlander project. This includes ensuring transparency and community involvement.
