Timmins schedules April 22 water valve repair affecting parts of Moneta Ave. and Spruce St. S.

Water service will be disrupted in parts of Timmins South on Wednesday, April 22, as the City of Timmins schedules a water valve repair on Moneta Avenue (between Spruce Street South and Railway Street) and on Spruce Street South (between Moneta Avenue and Sterling Avenue) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city says homeowners and businesses in the area could see short-term water shutoffs, reduced water pressure, or brown or rust-coloured water during the work.

In its public notice, the City of Timmins said the repair will take place on Moneta Avenue from Spruce Street South to Railway Street, and on Spruce Street South from Moneta Avenue to Sterling Avenue.

The city recommends residents not drink discoloured water or use it for laundry. The city also said the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.

If discoloured water appears, the city advises residents to stop running the tap for 10 to 20 minutes.

After the repair is completed, the city advises running cold water from the tap closest to the water source—usually a laundry-tub tap—until the water clears. The notice suggests this may take about 15 to 20 minutes.

The city described the work as “emergency work” in its notice.
