Timmins schedules hydrant flushing in Timmins South and Schumacher June 1–30

The City of Timmins is scheduled to flush fire hydrants in Timmins South and Schumacher from June 1 to June 30, with work taking place daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The city says residents and businesses in those areas may notice short-term drops in water pressure or brown or rust-coloured tap water while flushing is underway.

In Timmins South, the flushing area covers locations south of Algonquin Boulevard East, from the bridge east to Brunette Road.

In Schumacher, flushing is scheduled for all areas of the community, including Gold Mine Road, Carium Road and Gold Center, starting from Father Costello Road and heading east.

If tap water becomes discoloured, the city advises residents not to drink it or use it for laundry. The city says the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.

The city advises that if discoloured water occurs, residents should turn off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes to allow crews to finish flushing.

After flushing is completed and crews have left the area, the city says residents should run cold water from the tap closest to the source—usually a laundry-tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
