Timmins schedules Ice Chest Lake Road work for June through September
Construction on Ice Chest Lake Road in Timmins is scheduled for June through September, after Timmins city council awarded a contract to GIP Interpaving Ltd. in September 2025, the city says.
The work is aimed at reducing flooding and high-water problems that can lead to water overtopping the road, including during the spring freshet.
According to the City of Timmins, the project includes replacing existing culverts with larger ones to improve water flow and raising sections of the roadway to reduce overtopping during high-water events. The city says the higher road surface is intended to help maintain access when culverts are under pressure.
The city says the June-to-September schedule is intended to comply with environmental regulations that protect fish spawning and migration.
Before construction begins, the city says Timmins Public Works is doing maintenance work on Ice Chest Lake Road to address current flood conditions. The city said that work includes hauling material, grading, and installing a temporary granular berm to manage water accumulation.
Road closures and road conditions are posted on the city’s Municipal 511 page on the Timmins website.
