Timmins schedules water maintenance on Ruth Street in South Porcupine June 9

Water infrastructure maintenance is scheduled for Ruth Street in South Porcupine between Highway 101 E and Division Street on June 9, and the City of Timmins says homeowners and businesses in the area may have short-term water pressure loss or an interruption in service between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The city also says some customers could see brown or rust-coloured water during that time.

The City of Timmins’ Environmental Services Department is asking residents in the affected area to avoid drinking discoloured water or using it for laundry during the disruption.

The department said the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.

If brown or rust-coloured water occurs during the maintenance window, the department advises turning off your tap for 10 to 20 minutes to allow the crew to finish.

After the work is completed, the department advises residents to run the cold water tap closest to the source—usually a laundry tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.

The Environmental Services Department described the work as “emergency work.”
