Timmins Secures $9 Million for Housing Infrastructure
The City of Timmins is set to receive $9 million from the Ontario government’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund. This funding is designated for the Melrose Heights subdivision expansion, which will transform municipal land into approximately 257 residential lots. The project is planned in two phases, starting with the installation of over 2,100 meters of infrastructure.
The funding will support the engineering, design, and construction of essential infrastructure, including water mains, storm, and sanitary sewers. This initiative aligns with the city's Housing Action Plan, which was adopted last July to address local housing needs.
Scott Tam, Director of Growth and Infrastructure, mentioned the allocation of funds for critical infrastructure development. Mayor Michelle Boileau commented on the necessity of increasing the housing supply to meet the area's demands.
