Timmins to hold Sept. 4 public meeting on rezoning request for 5865 King St. dog grooming business
Timmins city council will hold a public meeting on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. in council chambers at 220 Algonquin Blvd. East to hear public input on a proposed rezoning for 5865 King St. that would allow a dog grooming business and reduce the minimum landscaping buffer on the west side of the property.
The proposed change could affect nearby residents by allowing General Commercial uses on land currently zoned for higher-density residential housing, and by changing the required separation between the proposed commercial zone and the adjacent residential zone to the west.
Council will consider rezoning 5865 King St. from Residential Third Density (NA-R3) to General Commercial (EA-CG) SP6.205.
The proposal would convert the building’s main-floor residential dwelling unit in the two-storey building into commercial space for a dog grooming business. The existing second-floor residential dwelling unit would remain and is legally permitted within the proposed General Commercial (EA-CG) zone.
The application also requests a special provision under the City of Timmins zoning bylaw to reduce the minimum landscaping buffer width between the proposed commercial zone and the adjacent residential zone to the west from 3.0 metres to 0 metres.
The applicants are Kayla O’Neill and Tyler Chamberlain. The file number is Z-2026-06.
