Timmins to Host Level Up! Skilled Trades Career Fairs in October 2025
The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development announced that Level Up! skilled trades career fairs will take place in Timmins on October 15 and 16, 2025. According to the ministry, these events are designed to introduce students in grades 7 to 12, along with parents and jobseekers, to careers in the skilled trades through interactive exhibits and demonstrations.
These career fairs provide students and community members in Timmins and across Ontario with opportunities to learn about trade occupations directly from employers and tradespeople, according to the provincial release. Attendees can take part in hands-on activities and explore careers such as electrician, boilermaker, heavy equipment operator, and automotive service technician.
The Level Up! career fairs will be held over 29 days in 12 communities between September 17 and December 12, 2025. Locations include Grafton, Barrie, Sudbury, Timmins, Thunder Bay, Windsor, Hamilton, London, Oshawa, Mississauga, Kingston, and Ottawa. The ministry reports that over 200 exhibitors are scheduled to participate. Attendance at all fairs is expected to exceed 50,000, according to the ministry. Last year, nearly 45,000 students, parents, friends, and teachers attended these events, based on ministry figures.
The Ministry of Education notes that students who wish to attend can register by contacting their school board’s Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program recruiter, a teacher, or a school guidance counsellor.
According to government figures, 16,412 youth aged 15 to 24 have registered for apprenticeships in the current year, which the ministry states is the highest number in the past decade. According to the ministry's release, since 2021, the Ontario government has invested $1.5 billion through the Skills Development Fund to train workers for in-demand jobs, and has committed nearly $1 billion more over the next three years. This brings the projected total investment to $2.5 billion by 2028.
According to the provincial release, one in five new job openings in Ontario by 2028 is expected to be in skilled trades-related occupations.
