Timmins to lower flags Sept. 27 for Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day

The City of Timmins will lower flags to half-mast at all municipally owned facilities from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, to mark Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day.

The memorial day is observed annually on the last Sunday of September. It honours police and peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

In a notice posted on the city’s website, the City of Timmins said the day also recognizes the service and sacrifice of those who work to keep the community safe.

The city’s notice also recognized members of the Timmins Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police South Porcupine detachment for their service to Timmins and the surrounding area.

Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day is a Canada-wide observance. The city’s notice directed residents to the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police website for more information about the day.
