Timmins to receive $400,000 a year for three years under renewed NORDS funding, city says

The City of Timmins says the Ontario government has renewed Northern Ontario Resource Development Support (NORDS) funding for the city for another three years, providing $400,000 a year.

In an April 24 update, the city said the NORDS program is intended to help municipalities across Northern Ontario pay for infrastructure affected by resource development and to support broader economic development initiatives.

The city did not identify which projects or infrastructure work in Timmins will be funded under the renewed allocation.

Mayor Michelle Boileau said in the city’s update that resource development, including mining, can put pressure on local infrastructure.

The update also described the funding as supporting “key infrastructure priorities” in Timmins, without providing further details on how the money will be spent.
