Timmins Transit Receives $233,039 in Provincial Funding

Timmins Transit will receive $233,039 from the provincial government. This funding is part of Phase 4 of the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement, which allocates $505 million across Ontario for municipal transit systems.

The funds are intended to offset costs related to COVID-19 in 2022, including revenue loss, operating expenses, and priority projects. Timmins Transit has relied on provincial and federal grants to cover operating costs since the pandemic began.

Mayor Michelle Boileau stated that providing accessible public transportation is a priority for the City of Timmins. Ken Krcel, Director of Public Works and Environmental Services, mentioned that the funding would help cover any revenue shortfall from 2022.
