Timmins Transit to Launch On-Demand Pilot in Porcupine and South Porcupine on August 1
Timmins Transit will start an On-Demand pilot project in Porcupine and South Porcupine on August 1, 2024. The project aims to expand service coverage and provide flexible, shared-ride transportation. Riders can book through a mobile app, web portal, or by calling Timmins Transit. The service will use smaller, fully accessible buses and will upgrade conventional bus service to a 15-minute frequency.
The On-Demand app, launched in February for paratransit users, will now serve Porcupine and South Porcupine. Advanced bookings will be available from July 25, 2024. Routes 16 and 901 East will be replaced by route 101 East with a 15-minute frequency. Many conventional bus stops will become virtual stops, requiring riders to book travel through the app.
Timmins Transit will hold a public information centre on July 25, 2024, at the Northern College gymnasium. The app is available for download from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
