Timmins Transit to Reinstate Route 16

Effective October 1, 2024, Timmins Transit will reinstate Route 16, serving Schumacher, South Porcupine, and Porcupine. This decision follows concerns about wait times and bus availability with the current On-Demand service. The reinstated Route 16 will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sundays, departing from the Timmins Transit Terminal on Spruce St. S. The Route 16B service will not be reinstated. Route 101E will be suspended, and the 15-minute frequency between Timmins and Porcupine will be discontinued. Timmins Transit On-Demand service will continue to be available.

Ken Krcel, Director of Public Works and Environmental Services, stated that the On-Demand service will remain in place and has been successfully used for Paratransit service since February. The expanded coverage area, including Connaught Hill and Bob’s Lake, will still have public transit options. Residents preferring microtransit can continue using the On-Demand service. Timmins Transit will explore ways to use this service in other underserviced areas across Timmins.
