Timmins warns of low water pressure, discoloured water on Crescent Avenue March 18
Residents and businesses on Crescent Avenue between MacLean Drive and Waterloo in Timmins could see low water pressure or brown, rust-coloured tap water on Wednesday, March 18, as the city carries out water infrastructure maintenance from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department said.
The city’s notice includes guidance for people in the affected area on what to do if water becomes discoloured during or after the work, including steps to avoid staining laundry.
During the disruption, the city said some properties may have a short-term loss of water pressure or discoloured water. The department advised residents not to drink discoloured water or use it to wash laundry. The notice states the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but can stain clothing.
If discoloured water occurs while crews are working, the city advised turning off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes “to allow the crew to finish.”
After the work is completed, the city said residents should turn on the cold-water tap closest to the source—usually a laundry tub tap—and let it run for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water colour returns to normal.
In the same notice, the Environmental Services Department described the work as “scheduled” water infrastructure maintenance but also referred to it as “emergency work.”
