Timmins warns planned water plant maintenance may temporarily discolour tap water
Planned maintenance at the Timmins Water Filtration Plant could temporarily discolour tap water in Timmins, according to the City of Timmins’ Environmental Services Department.
The city says the change could affect anyone connected to the municipal water distribution system. Some homes and businesses may see rust-coloured water during the work, and the city says the discolouration can stain laundry.
The Environmental Services Department advised residents not to drink discoloured water or use it for laundry.
In the same notice, the city said the discoloured water is not harmful to health.
If rust-coloured water appears, the city advised residents to run the cold-water tap closest to the source, usually a laundry-tub tap, for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the water returns to its normal colour.
The notice did not include start or end times for the maintenance.
