Timmins water maintenance planned for Spruce Street North on March 18; low pressure and discoloured water possible
Water infrastructure maintenance was scheduled in Timmins on March 18, with work set for Spruce Street North between Ross Avenue Drive and Drew Avenue from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The City of Timmins said people in the area may notice short-term low water pressure or brown or rust-coloured water during the disruption.
For residents and businesses on that section of Spruce Street North, the main impact is possible changes to water pressure and water colour during the day-long maintenance window. The city’s notice also included guidance for anyone who sees discoloured water.
The City of Timmins Environmental Services Department advised residents not to drink discoloured water or use it for laundry, saying it can stain clothing.
The city said the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.
If water becomes discoloured during the work, the city advised residents to turn off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes to allow crews to finish.
After the work is completed, the city said residents should run the cold water tap closest to the source—usually the laundry tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
The notice described the work as scheduled water infrastructure maintenance and referred to it as “emergency work.”
