Timmins water shutdown planned on Riverside Drive Aug. 12 for watermain test
Water service will be shut off on Riverside Drive between Joseph Street and Royal Street in Timmins on Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a watermain test, according to the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department.
The city says people and businesses in the area may notice short-term drops in water pressure during the shutdown, and some taps could run brown or rust-coloured water.
If water is discoloured, the city advises residents not to drink it or use it to wash laundry. The city says the discolouration is not harmful to health, but it can stain clothing.
If discoloured water appears, the city advises turning off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes to allow crews to finish the work.
After the crew has left the area, the city advises residents to run the cold-water tap closest to the source—often a laundry-tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
