Timmins water shutdown set for Feb. 17 as city repairs emergency watermain break

The City of Timmins says it will shut down water service in parts of the city on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to repair an emergency watermain break on Theriault Boulevard at Airport Road/Jubilee Street West and on College Street between Airport Road and Westmount.

The shutdown could affect nearby households and businesses with a temporary loss of water or lower water pressure, and some may see brown or rust-coloured water during the work, according to the city.

The city said residents should not drink discoloured water or use it to wash laundry. It also said the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but can stain clothing.

If discoloured water occurs during the repair, the city said residents should turn off their tap for 10 to 20 minutes.

Once the work is completed, the city said residents should run cold water from the tap closest to the source—usually a laundry tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.

The city did not provide a cause for the watermain break.
