Timmins watermain repair on Moneta Avenue April 8 may cause daylong service disruption

Water service may be disrupted in Timmins South on April 8 as the City of Timmins repairs a watermain break on Moneta Avenue between Spruce Street South and Railway Street. The city said the work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city says residents and businesses in the area could see temporary water shutoffs, lower water pressure, or brown or rust-coloured water during the repair.

The City of Timmins Environmental Services Department said residents should not drink discoloured water or use it for laundry. The city said the discoloured water is not harmful to health but can stain laundry.

If water becomes brown or rust-coloured during the work, the city advises residents to turn off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes.

Once the repair is finished, the city advises residents to run cold water from the tap closest to the source—usually a laundry tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.

The information was provided by the city’s Environmental Services Department in an April 8 update about the repair work.
