Timmins watermain valve test on Riverside Drive Aug. 6, 2026 may cause low pressure and discoloured water

A watermain valve test scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, starting at about 10:45 a.m., may temporarily lower water pressure and cause brown or rust-coloured tap water for properties along Riverside Drive in Timmins, from the Mattagami River Bridge west to the outer limits of the municipal water system.

The City of Timmins says residents and businesses in the affected area could see short-term changes to their tap water during the scheduled maintenance, including discoloured water and reduced pressure.

The city advises residents not to drink discoloured tap water or use it to wash laundry.

According to the city, the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.

If tap water becomes discoloured, the city advises residents to run the cold-water tap closest to the source—usually a laundry tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
