Town of Cochrane reiterates leash requirement for dogs within town limits

The Town of Cochrane says dogs must be kept on a leash at all times within town limits, unless they are in a designated off-leash area. The town posted the reminder May 28.

The notice follows complaints the town said it has received about dogs not being leashed in public areas. The town’s reminder also lists where dogs can be off leash.

The town said leashing dogs can help keep residents, pets and wildlife safe and can prevent conflicts with other park and trail users. The notice also says leashing helps ensure compliance with municipal bylaws.

For off-leash options, the town pointed residents to the Cochrane Dog Park and to trails outside town limits where off-leash use is permitted.

The town cited Dog Bylaw 124-2001 in its reminder.
