WAHA Announces 2024 Summer Medical Transportation Schedule
The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) has announced the 2024 summer transportation schedule for medical transportation services. Effective May 27, 2024, boat transportation services to and from Weeneebayko General Hospital (WGH) will be available for Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program patients and their escorts, WAHA business travelers, and non-status patients attending appointments.
Passengers traveling on flight 704 to Kingston must check in with Air Creebec by 2 p.m. for a 3 p.m. departure. All passengers must present valid identification to the ticket agent before boarding.
Key points to remember include:
- Boat runs will depart on time, with delays only for inclement weather or mechanical issues. Late arrivals will be denied boarding and must arrange their own travel.
- Limited seating is available. Children without scheduled appointments cannot accompany clients.
- No pets, alcohol, or illegal substances are allowed.
Travelers must present a Travel Warrant to the driver. WAHA staff and business travelers must email their travel warrant at least two days in advance and have a copy to show the driver.
Baggage restrictions include one carry-on and one piece of luggage weighing no more than 25 pounds, with exceptions for medical supplies or equipment. Passengers must arrange alternate transportation for extra bags exceeding 25 pounds, except for business travelers with tools, who must notify Air Creebec in advance.
The schedule includes specific departure times from Moosonee and Moose Factory, with additional runs for medically urgent cases as deemed by a physician or nurse practitioner. The helicopter schedule may change based on traveler volume.
