WAHA Medical Transportation Department Seeks Feedback on Medical Travel Experiences
The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) Medical Transportation department has launched a survey requesting feedback about experiences with travelling outside local communities for medical care. According to WAHA, this feedback is intended to help the department understand the challenges faced by residents when accessing medical services that are not available in the region.
For older community members who often need to travel for appointments or treatments, the survey may be relevant, as transportation can present significant obstacles. WAHA states that responses will provide insight into the barriers people encounter and may inform future departmental planning.
According to the announcement, the Indigenous Services Canada Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program assists First Nations individuals with health needs that are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). The announcement lists travel for medical appointments, prescriptions, dental care, and vision care as services available under the NIHB Program.
WAHA states that the survey is available via a link on the organization’s website. The announcement does not specify how the feedback gathered from the survey will be used or if the results will be shared publicly.
