Water service disruption planned for part of Young Street in South Porcupine on June 2
Water service is set to be disrupted on part of Young Street in South Porcupine on Tuesday, June 2, as the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department carries out water infrastructure maintenance. The affected area is Young Street between Rekela and Florence, and the disruption is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents and businesses in that section of Young Street are expected to have no water or low water pressure during the work, and taps may run brown or rust-coloured water.
The city recommends people in the affected area not drink water or do laundry if their water is discoloured. The notice says the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but can stain laundry.
If brown or rust-coloured water appears, the city advises residents to turn off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes to allow the crew to finish.
After the work is completed, the city advises turning on the cold-water tap closest to the source, usually a laundry tub tap. Residents should let it run for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
The city’s notice refers to the work as both “scheduled” maintenance and “emergency work.”
