Watermain repair may disrupt service on parts of Melrose Boulevard and Dieppe Street in Timmins North April 20

Water service may be disrupted in parts of Timmins North on April 20 as the City of Timmins carries out a watermain break repair on sections of Melrose Boulevard and Dieppe Street.

The city says homeowners and businesses on the east side of Melrose Boulevard between Westmount Boulevard and Victoria Avenue, and on the west side of Dieppe Street between Westmount Boulevard and Victoria Avenue, may see low water pressure, a short-term loss of water service, or brown or rust-coloured water.

In its advisory, the city set the disruption window for April 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city recommends residents not drink discoloured water or use it for laundry during the disruption. The advisory says the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain clothing.

If brown or rust-coloured water appears, the city advises residents to stop running the tap and leave it off for 10 to 20 minutes to allow the repair work to finish.

After the work is completed, the city advises residents to run the cold-water tap closest to the water source—usually a laundry tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.

The City of Timmins described the repair as emergency work.
