Women's Workforce Participation in Timmins Tops 50% Ahead of International Women’s Day 2025

The City of Timmins is gearing up to mark International Women's Day on March 8, 2025. The theme for this celebration is "#AccelerateAction towards full gender parity," which encourages equality in education, workplace participation, and economic involvement.

Female employees currently make up over 50% of the municipal workforce in Timmins, amounting to approximately 420 individuals. This reflects a notable representation of women in local government roles.

Timmins has instituted numerous policies to support women in the workforce, including maternity and parental leave top-ups, remote work options, and compassionate leave. Additionally, the city provides coverage for fertility drugs and reproductive health needs, such as IUDs and breast prostheses.

Training initiatives and policies aimed at inclusivity and workplace fairness include sensitivity and bias training and a diversity, equity, and inclusion framework. These policies align with the Employment Equity Act and Pay Equity Act, which are part of broader national standards meant to protect and promote gender equality in the workplace.
