Al Kanater Tahini Recalled in Alberta Over Salmonella Concerns
Al Kanater brand Tahini in 908 g containers has been recalled in Alberta due to possible Salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall warning on May 18, 2025. The product can be identified by UPC 5 285000 871200, production date PRO: 09/07/2024, expiry date EXP: 09/07/2026, and lot number T40907.
According to the CFIA, Salmonella may not affect the appearance or smell of food, but it can still cause illness. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Severe arthritis is listed as a possible long-term complication.
The agency reports that the recall was triggered by their test results. There have been no reported illnesses related to this product as of the time of the announcement. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The agency is also verifying that the recalled Tahini is being removed from retail stores in Alberta.
The recalled Tahini was sold by 1676183 Alberta Ltd. and distributed only in Alberta. The recall has been classified as Class 2 by the CFIA. The agency advises that the recalled Tahini should not be consumed, sold, served, or distributed. The CFIA says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.
