Canada Funds $75 Million in Skills Training for NEOn

The Government of Canada has allocated over $75 million to support skills training programs across various sectors nationwide. This funding is part of the Sustainable Jobs Plan 2023–2025 and is intended to help the workforce adapt to a low-carbon economy.

The initiative includes eight distinct projects throughout the country, with some focused on the Northeast of Ontario (NEOn). Over 10,000 workers are expected to receive training through these programs.

Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour, highlighted the need for skilled workers in Canada. Tonie Chaltas, CEO of Achēv, noted the significance of partnerships in such initiatives.

The government aims for this funding to support NEOn's workforce by providing essential skills necessary for adaptation to environmental shifts, without specific claims regarding economic impacts made beyond direct training and financing figures.
