CFIA Recalls Bornibus Tehina in Victoria Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall of Bornibus brand Tehina sold at The Market Garden, 810 Catherine St., Victoria, following the detection of possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product is a 240-gram container with UPC 3592860018907 and code 5013HB 01/2027.

The CFIA stated that the recall, published on June 5, 2025, was triggered by a recall in another country. There have been no reported illnesses in Canada associated with this product, according to the agency.

Salmonella infection can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. According to the CFIA, while healthy people may experience short-term symptoms, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems could face more serious and sometimes deadly infections. The CFIA reports that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick.

The CFIA advises consumers to check if they have the recalled Tehina. Consumers are instructed not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the product, and should return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it safely.

The affected product was distributed in British Columbia. The recall is classified as Class 2, with identification number RA-77518. The CFIA is conducting an ongoing food safety investigation and is verifying that the recalled product is being removed from the marketplace.
