CFIA recalls Shaikh Al Kar halva for possible Salmonella; products sold in Alberta and B.C.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a Class 1 food recall warning on Sept. 23, 2025 for multiple Shaikh Al Kar brand halva products due to possible Salmonella contamination. According to the agency, the recalled products were distributed in Alberta and British Columbia. No illnesses have been reported.
The CFIA noted that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. The agency states that young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems may face more serious infections, while healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
Affected products, as listed by the CFIA, all with best-before date 2026.Aug.25, include:

The recalling firm is listed as Nabil Boutamina, doing business as Mediterranean Halal Meats. The CFIA said the recall was triggered by its test results.
The CFIA advised consumers to check for the recalled products and not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute them. The agency stated that recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. If someone believes they became sick from a recalled product, the CFIA advises contacting a healthcare provider.
According to the CFIA, a food safety investigation is underway and could lead to the recall of other products. The agency said it is verifying that industry is removing the affected items from the marketplace.
