CNSC Approves License for Darlington Nuclear Project's SMR

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has granted a power reactor construction license for the first unit of the Darlington New Nuclear Project. This development marks a step forward in Ontario's energy sector, involving the deployment of a small modular reactor (SMR) at the Darlington site near Bowmanville.

The announcement was made by Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines, following the CNSC's decision. Small modular reactors are smaller and more flexible nuclear reactors that offer a different approach compared to traditional large-scale nuclear facilities.
