Cochrane to consider Oct. 28 bylaw to close unopened road allowances, sell surplus industrial land
Cochrane council will consider a bylaw at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 171 Fourth Avenue, to stop up and close parts of unopened road allowances and laneways and to sell about 1.40 hectares (3.45 acres) of municipal land, deemed surplus, to the abutting property owner.
The process is proceeding under the town’s land disposition policy, By-law 1502-2022, adopted under section 270 of the Municipal Act, 2001. Council approved Resolution 2025-297 on Aug. 12, 2025, to proceed with recommendation no. 1 in a staff report, according to an Oct. 2 municipal notice.
The subject lands are designated Industrial Area in the Cochrane and Suburban Planning Area Official Plan and zoned Industrial (M1) under Zoning By-law 968-2013.
The affected portions lie between properties legally described as Lots 178–184; 207–229; 251–272; 298–308; PT Lane on M174NB and Part 2 on 6R8435, Town of Cochrane; Roll Number 5639 010 001 00300 0000.
Council intends to sell the subject lands at fair market value to the abutting landowner of the parcels listed above.
A survey will be required to confirm the final size of the lands before sale.
A map and the draft bylaw are available at the municipal office and on the town’s website under “Notices.” The notice is dated Oct. 2, 2025.
