Kapuskasing Seeks to Fill Council Vacancy
The Town of Kapuskasing has announced a vacancy on its municipal council for one councillor position. The council intends to fill this vacancy by appointing a candidate from the most recent municipal election who received the most votes but was not elected.
The term for the appointed councillor will begin on June 17, 2024, and will last until November 14, 2026. Candidates must be qualified municipal electors as defined by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. This includes being at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, a resident of Kapuskasing, or an owner or tenant of land in the town, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant.
Interested candidates must complete a Council Vacancy Application Form and a Declaration of Qualification Form with the Clerk’s Office. Further details on qualifications can be found in the Municipal Act, 2001, and the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
