New Welding Program for Youth at Sprucedale Centre

The Ontario government has announced a new welding training program at the Sprucedale Youth Centre in Simcoe. This initiative aims to provide youth in the justice system with skills that are in demand, facilitating their reintegration into the community. The program is developed in collaboration with the Canadian Welding Bureau.

Participants in the program will have the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized welding certification. The training includes practical skills that can lead to further education, trade programs, and employment in the skilled trades sector.

The program is supported by a financial investment of approximately $148,000 from the Ontario government, along with an $80,000 grant from the Canadian Welding Bureau. This initiative is part of Ontario's broader efforts to equip young people with valuable skills and certifications.

The welding program complements the existing TRADES program at Sprucedale Youth Centre, which offers a range of skilled trade occupations and industry-standard certifications. The Ontario government has been investing in various programs to support youth in custody, focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
