Ontario Announces $325 Million for Water Infrastructure Projects
The Ontario government has announced a $325 million investment to support water infrastructure projects across the province. This funding, provided through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), aims to assist municipalities in developing and upgrading essential water systems. According to the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure, the initiative is intended to facilitate the construction of up to 107,000 new homes.
The investment will be allocated to various municipalities to enhance drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. This effort is part of a broader strategy to address housing needs and support community growth across Ontario, including in the Northeast region.
Kinga Surma, Ontario's Minister of Infrastructure, noted that the government is increasing its investment in the HEWSF to help municipalities deliver the necessary infrastructure to connect new homes to essential water services.
