Ontario Announces Licence-Free Fishing Week for Canadian Residents June 28–July 6

All Canadian residents may fish in Ontario without a licence from June 28 to July 6, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources. The ministry states this is the fourth and final licence-free fishing period in Ontario for 2025.

This information is relevant for those who intend to fish during these dates, as rules and regulations continue to apply. According to the ministry, more than one million licensed anglers spend $1.75 billion per year on recreational fishing in Ontario.

The Ministry of Natural Resources states that during the licence-free period, participants must follow conservation licence catch and size limits, respect fishing sanctuaries, and comply with all provincial fishing regulations. The ministry also requires that anyone fishing without a licence during these dates carry government-issued identification showing their name and date of birth.

According to the ministry, outside of the free fishing periods, most people between the ages of 18 and 64 must have both an Outdoors Card and a valid fishing licence to fish in Ontario. The ministry notes that all veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces who live in Ontario may fish without a licence at any time, as long as they follow all relevant fishing regulations.

Fishing licences, according to the ministry, can be purchased online through the provincial website or in person at participating ServiceOntario and authorized licence issuer locations.
