Ontario Greenlights New Transmission Line for Timmins

The Ontario government has approved Hydro One to construct a new transmission line to address the increasing energy demands in Timmins and support the growth of manufacturing and mining sectors in Northeastern Ontario. This infrastructure project involves a transmission line approximately 260 kilometers long, connecting the Wawa Transformer Station to the Porcupine Transformer Station near Timmins. The project is expected to be completed and operational by 2030.

The Ontario government states that this project aims to enhance the energy supply in the region, facilitating economic development and accommodating future growth. Hydro One is responsible for obtaining all necessary approvals and managing the construction and operational aspects of the transmission line.

The new transmission line is seen as a significant development for Timmins and the broader Northeastern Ontario region, expected to provide a stable energy source to support both current and future industrial activities. The project reflects the province's response to the growing energy needs in the area, particularly in sectors vital to the local economy.
