Ontario Northland Hosts Community Events for Northlander Rail Service
Ontario Northland is working to reinstate the Northlander passenger rail service. The agency recently held 15 Community Connection events in various locations including Timmins, Kirkland Lake, New Liskeard, Washago, and Huntsville, as well as virtual sessions. These events aimed to discuss the progress of the service and gather feedback from the community.
The Northlander project is currently in the design and planning phase. Ontario Northland is conducting engineering and environmental assessments to ensure the service is safe, accessible, and sustainable.
During the events, attendees were able to vote on the exterior design of the train and provide input on menu items and on-board amenities. The feedback collected will help shape the final offerings of the service.
Ontario Northland also used these events to promote rail safety, reminding communities along the corridor to prioritize safety as rail traffic increases. Information about job openings related to the Northlander service was also shared, highlighting potential employment opportunities in the region.
