Ontario to Invest Over $75 Million in Dam Rehabilitation
The Ontario government is set to invest over $75 million in the rehabilitation of 10 dams across the province. This initiative aims to extend the lifespan of these structures, ensuring the safety and functionality of the dams for up to 100 years. The construction projects are scheduled to occur over the next four years.
The dams included in this rehabilitation project are located in various towns and municipalities, including Baysville, Espanola, Smellie Township, Whitestone, Huntsville, Mattawa, Huron Shores, Lismore, and Atikokan. Specifically, the dams are Baysville Dam, Frood Lake Dam, Forest Lake Dam, Gooseneck Lake Dam, Huntsville Dam, Hurdman Dam, Lang Lake Dam, Shaw Lake Dam, Whitefish Lake Dam, and Wagita Concrete Dam.
Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources, emphasized the importance of maintaining dam infrastructure to ensure community safety and environmental protection. Local officials from the affected areas have acknowledged the significance of this investment in preserving critical infrastructure.
This investment is part of Ontario's broader efforts to maintain and improve infrastructure across the province, ensuring that it meets current safety standards and continues to serve the needs of its communities.
