Pedestrian Injured After Collision with Impaired Driver in Timmins

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 6:07 a.m., the Timmins Police Service responded to several reports of an erratic driver on Highway 101, passing the McIntyre Community Centre and continuing through South Porcupine. The vehicle struck a lamp post and then hit a pedestrian, according to police. The pedestrian sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. Police stated the driver was found to be impaired and was taken into custody at the scene. Charges are pending and have not yet been sworn before the courts, so police have not released the identity of the individual or the specific charges.

Police stated that impaired driving remains an issue in Timmins. From January 2025 to the date of this incident, police reported 25 drivers have been charged with impaired operation-related offences: 19 for impairment by alcohol and 6 for impairment by drugs.

Acting Sergeant Trevor Southcott of the Traffic Section, Timmins Police Service, said, "This situation could have had tragic consequences. Driving while impaired puts every road user in danger and continues to be a serious public safety concern."

The Timmins Police Service stated it will continue to enforce impaired driving laws and investigate suspected cases.
