Smooth Rock Falls Council Addresses Appointments, By-Laws, and Community Projects

Smooth Rock Falls Town Council met on August 18, 2025, approving appointments, awarding a contract for an official plan review, and considering issues related to local by-laws, recreation facilities, and public infrastructure.

These council decisions affect issues such as committee membership, updates to municipal planning, progress on local recreational amenities, and upgrades to community services relevant to residents.

Joanne Landry was appointed as a member-at-large to the Cemetery and Community Spaces Committee. The contract for the Town’s Official Plan Review and Update was awarded to Planscape Inc. for $55,075 plus HST. Council stated that any balance not covered by the 2025 budget allocation will be included in the 2026 budget.

Council received notice that its application to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for funding to revitalize the former council’s multi-use recreation facility was not successful. Council reported that feedback was provided to improve future applications, and the project will be reconsidered as part of the 2026 budget process.

Council advanced two by-laws: By-Law 2025-55, establishing a Regulation of Personal Recreation Facilities Policy, received its second reading. By-Law 2025-56, which would repeal the existing code of conduct for council and committee members (By-Law 2020-84), received its first and second readings.

Council approved a capital project to install two water stations in public parks. Council also reported the completion of its telecommunications system investigation and stated that it is exploring the feasibility of providing high-speed internet to underserved areas using grant support.

The next council meeting is scheduled for September 1, 2025.
