Sudbury to Host 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games
The city of Sudbury has been chosen to host the 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games. The Ontario government is providing $235,000 to support Sudbury's successful bid. The event is expected to bring over 1,000 participants to the area, engaging in nearly 20 different sports events. The games are projected to generate more than $1.5 million in economic benefits for Sudbury and nearby communities.
The Ontario 55+ Summer Games occur biennially and are organized by the Ministry of Sport in collaboration with the Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA). The games provide an opportunity for participants to compete and potentially represent Ontario at the national level in the Canada 55+ Games.
The Ministry of Sport allocates an annual grant of $110,000 to the OSGA to support activities and programs related to the Ontario 55+ Games. The OSGA is a non-profit organization that promotes various sports, including slo-pitch, curling, cycling, lawn bowling, tennis, pickleball, and golf.
Sudbury previously hosted the Ontario Summer Games in 2010. The Ontario 55+ Summer Games were first held in 1986 in Kitchener, originally known as 'Activefest'.
