Timmins Announces Dog Guides Walk for May 25 at Gillies Lake

Residents in Timmins and the surrounding Northeast are invited to take part in the 40th annual Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides on Sunday, May 25, 2025. According to an official release issued by the City of Timmins, this event will be held at Gillies Lake and is linked to National AccessAbility Week.

The release states that funds from the walk will go to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG), which trains and matches dog guides with people who have medical or physical disabilities. The city indicates that each dog guide costs about CA$35,000 to raise and train, and the event aims to help offset those expenses so that recipients do not pay out of pocket.

The city reports that registration is open through an online event page, with donations also accepted at designated spots in Timmins. The walk is included in activities organized by the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee, which reviews local services, facilities, and infrastructure for accessibility considerations. The release notes that this is among several events recognized during National AccessAbility Week.
