Timmins approves $101.24M tax levy for 2026; residential tax rate set to rise 4.67%

Timmins city council has approved the city’s 2026 tax levy at $101,244,561, a 4.95% increase from 2025. For an average residential home assessed at $193,000, the increase works out to about $15.56 more per month, and the increase on a median commercial property is about $404.10 per year.

Council also approved tax rates and ratios for 2026, including increases of 4.67% for the residential tax rate and 4.09% for the commercial tax rate.

The city calculates its municipal tax rate using the required tax revenue, current property assessments, the approved budgets of the city’s Agencies, Boards and Commissions, and the provincial education tax rate.

The city’s Agencies, Boards and Commissions budgets increase 11.07% in 2026; the city linked the increase to law enforcement, public health and social care.

Timmins sets different tax rates for residential, multi-residential, commercial and industrial properties.

The city’s 2026 budget includes approximately $51.1 million for capital roads projects, including rehabilitation of two Connecting Link segments, the annual shave-and-pave program, and replacement and repair of two bridges in the city’s east end.

Mayor Michelle Boileau said the budget includes spending on roads, water supply capacity and housing development.

Residential property taxes account for approximately 63.54% of collected revenue, according to city figures.
