Timmins council approves 2026 tax levy of $101.24M; residential rate up 4.67%

Timmins city council approved the city’s 2026 tax levy on April 15, setting it at $101,244,561, a 4.95% increase from 2025. Council also approved 2026 tax rates that increase the residential tax rate by 4.67% and the commercial tax rate by 4.09%.

For homeowners and businesses, the decision sets property tax rates that the city says will fund municipal services and planned capital work in 2026.

The city estimates a home assessed at $193,000 would pay about $15.56 more per month than in 2025. The city estimates the increase for a median commercial property at about $404.10 a year.

Budgets for the city’s Agencies, Boards and Commissions are up 11.07% in 2026, according to the city. The city said the increase is intended to support law enforcement, public health and social care.

Residential property taxes account for about 63.54% of collected revenue.

The city says about $51.1 million is planned for capital roads projects in 2026. Projects include rehabilitation of two Connecting Link segments, the annual “shave and pave” program, and replacement and repair of two bridges in Timmins’ east end.

“This budget reflects the priorities of our residents and direction of Council,” Mayor Michelle Boileau said in the city’s announcement. She said the city plans to focus spending on roads, water supply capacity and housing development.
