Timmins awards $325,142 design contract for Leo Del Villano Park upgrades
On June 18, 2025, Timmins city council awarded a $325,142 design contract to J.L Richards & Associates Limited for upgrades at Leo Del Villano Park, including a new fully accessible washroom and a regulation‑size cricket field.
The upgrades are part of a broader revitalization intended to make the park more usable for residents and visitors.
“The current washroom facility at the park is outdated and no longer meets modern standards for accessibility or functionality,” said Steph Palmateer, Director of Community Services and City Clerk.
Palmateer said it is more cost‑effective to construct a new fully accessible washroom than to upgrade the existing structure. The city plans to repurpose the current building as a cold storage facility to support park operations, Palmateer said.
According to the city, participation in cricket has increased in Timmins, particularly among youth and newcomer communities. The city added that league play and tournaments require a regulation‑size field and that the current area does not meet official size standards, limiting organized competition.
The city said the project aligns with its recreation master plan.
The city did not provide a timeline for design completion or construction.
