Timmins City Council Implements New Parkland Regulations
Timmins City Council has enacted a new by-law to address nuisance behaviors in local parklands and water areas within parklands. The by-law aims to manage, control, regulate, and maintain these areas for public use.
Key provisions of the by-law include prohibitions on vandalism, littering, open fires, overnight camping, and public loitering. Public loitering is specifically restricted between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., with loitering defined as staying at or near a place for more than twenty minutes. Violations can result in removal from park property and fines under the Provincial Offences Act.
City Clerk and Director of Community Services, Steph Palmateer, stated that the by-law enhances the authority of Enforcement Services to ensure safe and equitable use of public spaces. The by-law will work in conjunction with other municipal regulations, such as the noise by-law and animal control, to manage park usage effectively.
