Timmins issues extreme cold alert for Dec. 20; shelter at 316 Spruce St. S.

The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to -25 including wind chill. People requiring emergency shelter can attend 316 Spruce St. S. for assistance.

“Exposure to extreme cold temperatures can cause serious and sometimes even life-threatening health problems, such as frostbite and hypothermia. Protection from extreme cold conditions includes avoiding wind exposure, dressing in warm layers, and covering exposed skin,” the city said in the notice.

The city posted the notice at 8:54 a.m.

Recent posts on the city’s website show similar advisories earlier this month, including items titled “Extreme Cold Weather Alert – December 03, 2025,” “Extreme Cold Weather Alert – December 07, 2025,” and “Extreme Cold Weather Alert - December 19, 2025.”

The Dec. 20 notice did not provide additional details beyond the expected overnight low and the safety advice.
