One man has died and two others were taken to hospital after a shooting shortly after midnight on Aug. 1, 2026, near Rea Street South and Belanger Avenue in Timmins, according to the Timmins Police Service.
Police said they are investigating the incident as a homicide and asked the public to stay away from the area, which remained under police control.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found three male victims with gunshot wounds, police said. Police secured the scene and helped paramedics provide first aid.
Police said one of the victims was taken to hospital “in vital signs absent (VSA) condition” and was later pronounced dead.
Police said one of the two other victims remained in critical condition, while the other suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
The Timmins Police Service said its Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation.
Police said their investigation so far indicates the shooting is not related to events reported to police on July 31, 2026. Police said more information will be shared when it can be released without affecting the investigation.
